2019 Toyota RAV4 Review
A mid-size SUV like the Toyota RAV4 is a great option for everyone from families to drivers who love going off-roading. What can the latest model of this beloved SUV offer drivers near Nashville, Gallatin, and Madison? Ron Hibbard Toyota looks at everything it’s capable of in this 2019 Toyota RAV4 review.
2019 Toyota RAV4 Performance Specs
The RAV4 runs on a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine that gets up to 203 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. It was designed with Dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) to boost its production and help the engine run cleaner.
To manage the engine and gear shifting, you’ll have a Direct Shift 8-speed Electronically Controlled Automatic Transmission with intelligence. The combination of the VVT-i and smart-shifting transmission help this SUV get an EPA-estimated 26 city / 35 highway MPG.1
While front-wheel drive is standard on the Toyota RAV4, all-wheel drive (AWD) is also available. This versatile drivetrain and strong engine can also help you bring extra cargo along with a 3,500-pound towing capacity.
2019 Toyota RAV4 Capability
To maintain traction on all kinds of surfaces, this 2019 SUV features a Multi-terrain Select system along with its AWD, letting you manually adjust the drivetrain to match the terrain you’re on. By simply turning a knob on your center console, you can quickly switch between three modes:
- Mud and Sand
- Rock and Dirt
2019 Toyota RAV4 Passenger & Cargo Room
The interior of the 2019 RAV4 is designed to comfortably seat up to five people and still carry all your cargo. There are two rows of seats and 98.9 cubic feet of passenger space. Whether you go with fabric or SofTex® upholstery, everyone can relax and enjoy the ride inside this open cabin.
An available panoramic glass moonroof with power-tilt capabilities will slightly affect your headroom: The driver and passenger will have 37.7 inches of front headroom, while the back headroom remains the same.
Behind the second-row seats, you’ll be able to store a lot of boxes, bags, and gear, with 37.6 cubic feet of space in the trunk. To help you load more, there are standard 60/40 fold-flat rear seats. With the seats dropped down, you’ll have a maximum of 69.8 cubic feet of cargo room.
Loading up your SUV will be simple, even when you’ve got your hands full. There’s an available rear power liftgate as well as a hands-free power liftgate, which open up just by waving your foot in front of a sensor on the rear bumper.

2019 Toyota RAV4 Safety
During your drive, this new Toyota model offers peace of mind with a strong frame and eight standard air bags. The entire cabin will be protected between the front and side air bags for the driver and front passenger, and front and rear side-curtain air bags that cover both rows of seats.
To make sure all your drives are safe, the Star Safety System™ comes standard. It gives you reliable performance and control with built-in features like:
- Enhanced Vehicle Stability Control
- Traction Control
- Anti-lock Brake System
- Electronic Brake-force Distribution
- Brake Assist
- Smart Stop Technology
Even the seatbelts were built with intelligent safety technology in mind. Smaller passengers in the back seat can be strapped in securely with Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH), while up front, both seatbelts can prevent whiplash during an accident with pretensioners and force limiters.
This SUV is also prepared to help you safely tow things along for the ride. For instance, Trailer Sway Control monitors whatever you’re hauling and uses corrective braking to keep it in line with your SUV.
2019 Toyota RAV4 Driver Assistance Features
The 2019 Toyota RAV4 also uses technology to prevent accidents before they occur. The standard Toyota Safety Sense™ 2.0 system provides you with tons of driver assistance features that will give you greater awareness. These technologies include:
- Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection
- Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist
- Automatic High Beams
- Road Sign Assist
- Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
- Lane Tracing Assist
On top of the features that come with Toyota Safety Sense™ 2.0, you can add additional features like an Intelligent Clearance Sonar with Rear Cross-Traffic Braking, or a Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert to cover every angle of your SUV.
You’ll even be able to check behind you when you’re backing up; whenever you shift into reverse, your dashboard infotainment screen will switch its display to give you a look at what the integrated backup camera sees. It even features gridlines, so you can see what path you’re on.
2019 Toyota RAV4 Infotainment System
To keep you on the right path and make sure you stay connected during your drive, there’s a user-friendly infotainment system on top of your dashboard. This Entune™ 3.0 Audio system has a standard 7-inch touchscreen, but an 8-inch screen is also available.
This sleek system is Bluetooth® compatible, so you can safely take hands-free phone calls and stream music from your smartphone. You’ll also be able to access your favorite smartphone apps through Apple CarPlay®, and switch between them quickly with Siri® Eyes Free.
While the navigation system delivers turn-by-turn directions, Dynamic Voice Recognition lets you add or change destinations easily. Plus, wherever you go, you and your passengers can stay in touch with all your email, social media, and streaming services thanks to a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot. Everyone’s devices can stay charged, too, with a Qi-compatible wireless phone charger.
