The Toyota Tacoma offers rugged good looks, excellent off-road capability, and an array of entertainment and safety technology that work together to make the ride safer and more entertaining.
Drivers near Nashville, Gallatin, and Madison can learn more about the powertrain options, performance, interior, technology, and more by visiting our showroom or checking out this 2019 Toyota Tacoma review.
The 2019 Toyota Tacoma comes with a 2.7L inline-4 engine that’s rated at 159 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque. For added power, a 3.5L V6 engine that gets up to 278 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque is also available. Rear-wheel drive is standard on most trim levels, but 4-wheel drive is available on all models.
Likewise, most trim levels come with a standard 6-speed Electronically Controlled automatic Transmission with intelligence (ECT-i). If you like driving stick or want a more traditional feel to your drive, a 6-speed manual transmission is also available. Regardless of which options you choose, this tough truck delivers smooth gear shifting and a confident drive.
The Toyota Tacoma also rides high on an absorbent suspension that minimizes how much you’ll feel bumps in the road. With its tallest configuration it features a ground clearance of up to 9.4 inches. That can help you get through ditches, streams, and attack steep hills.
If you do run into serious inclines, Hill Start Assist will help you get to the top by reducing rollback after you take your foot off the brake. On your way back down, you can count on it to make sure you travel down at a safe, consistent speed.
A couple off-roading packages are available and include tough features like front and rear skid plate and FOX® internal bypass shocks. You’ll even be able to adjust the suspension and dampening to your current driving conditions using a dial on your dashboard. The Multi-terrain Select system has five modes, including Crawl Control for when you’re off-roading.
For general traction and control though, you can add a push-button locking rear differential and Active Traction Control system.
Towing and Payload
Both powertrains give the Toyota Tacoma the ability to move lots of your cargo. It can tow up to 6,800 pounds. Taking a trailer on the road is easy too. The standard Integrated Backup Camera makes lining your truck up and hooking up the hitch simple. Once you’re on the road, you can rely on Trailer-Sway Control to make sure your cargo stays in line with your truck.
You’ll also be able to pack a payload of up to 1,440 pounds in the truck bed, too. To keep your cargo from sliding around, there’s a deck rail system with four heavy duty tie down cleats.
After you’re finished unloading, you’ll notice that the bed still looks great too. An ultra-durable fiber-reinforced Sheet-Molded Composite bed is designed to stand up to dents, dings, and scraps.
The truck bed is also designed to be convenient. You can add a 120-volt/400-watt power outlet to the truck bed wall that’s great for plugging in your tools or connecting some speakers at your next BBQ or tailgate party. Comparably as one can see in this Tacoma review, the competition just can’t keep up.
Interior Comfort and Space
The Tacoma comes in both Access Cab and Double Cab models, which offer heavily padded, supportive seating that provides plenty of long-distance comfort. There’s ample head- and legroom as well, ensuring that even larger passengers have space to stretch out and relax on long drives. Whether you choose cloth or leather seats, the interior materials are durable, high quality, and further enhance your comfort.
Double Cab Tacoma models come with a 5-foot-long short bed, while Access Cab models can be equipped with a 5-foot short bed or a 6-foot long bed. Rear-hinged back doors open to reveal more space for interior cargo storage as well.
The pickup can be equipped with high-tech features designed to improve entertainment and information options, such as a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation. This system features a sharp, responsive touchscreen interface, large, crisp graphics, and a variety of third-party app compatibility. With these features, you can enjoy an array of entertainment and media options on your drive.
All Tacoma models come equipped with advanced safety features as well. Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, and Lane Departure Alert are all standard as part of the Toyota Safety Sense™ P system. Additional driver assistance features like a Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert are available for higher trim levels. These features provide additional visibility and awareness of the area around your vehicle and give you advanced warning to prevent a collision. Some features even take measures to mitigate the effects of a collision as well, by reducing engine speed or applying the brakes.
